RPG trys out for Team Canada!

Some of your very own Rated PG skaters took part in the Team Canada try-outs in Chilliwack last weekend. The competition was fierce and the expectations were high.
"I knew things were going to be tough when the first drill was 3 one footed transitions on the straightaway" says Ruthless Red.

Katt Van Doom, Sistah Vibrosis, Ruthless Red, Hawberry Jam, Miss Brown Smackdown, Hippie Checkinya, Sara-bellum and Yardsale all took part in the drills and skills portion of the day which saw skaters from all over BC and Alberta taking part. "There were about 60-70 girls there trying out, all of them amazing skaters" says Katt Van Doom. All the skaters were split into 3 teams to complete the skills, then moved on to one-on-one, two-on-one and three wall blocking drills.

The final stage of the day was scrimmage where only 30 skaters were asked to take part. Sara-bellum and Yardsale were among the few chosen to skate in the epic match. "Sara-bellum butt punched a jammer out of play early in the first half. Yardsale jammed and showed her amazing ability to stay in play" says Katt Van Doom. Ruthless red adds, "the caliber of the game was intense, they were up on their toe-stops hopping around the whole time. It was a whole new level of derby." The two were cheered on by a wall of orange supporters. And this day wasn't just for the skaters, head ref Captain Dantastic was able to show off his skills as an outsife pack ref during the scrimmage.

The event was a star-studded affair with derby legends like Easy Break Oven, Kim Janna, Eight Mean Wheeler and Buffy Sainte Fury in attendance.

The day finished with exhaustion and pride as coach Loki watched her team compete on the National level. No one will know who made the team until all the try-out clinics across the country have been completed, but we sure have our fingers crossed.

SK8FEST DERBY BOUT is TONIGHT! (Saturday)

So...WHAT IS SK8FEST?
SK8FEST marks the beginning of the new derby season for the Rated PG Rollergirls and our Officials crew.
SK8FEST is also an invitational bout so that means that we invite skaters and officials from all over to come to Prince George to take part in a full day of derby. First they'll attend clinics and bootcamps, then have a short break until... GAME TIME! Then of course, there's the after party. This year we've got skaters and officials coming from all over B.C. and Alberta
to join your local rollergirls and refs bring in the new year...of derby!

MORE: Rated PG started holding the SK8FEST bout 5 years ago as a way to support our own growing league and other skaters in the area. We wanted to be able to show our sisterly love for all those derby girls in small towns whose leagues weren't big enough to fill a roster, travel, or play much derby at all. We thank our lucky stars that we've got such a supporting fan and friend in Al from the PG Dome.
Rated PG is unique in that we have a skating surface that is open all year round. Most other leagues (including Terminal City in Vancouver) have to cater their derby season to times when the ice is off the rinks. This is sadly the situation faced by most other derby teams in Northern B.C.. We are elated to be able to host the SK8FEST skaters and officials here in P.G. and give them a fun time just as their own beloved skating surfaces disappear under a thick veneer of solid ice until spring.

SK8FEST NSO Clinic -Learn to derby the painless way!-

This year SK8FEST is bigger than ever! We've added a second game,
so that means you'll see twice the derby!
We're doing the same bootcamp for the skaters and Referees.
New to this year's SK8FEST is a Non-Skating Official Clinic.

Don't miss a single BIG HIT! Tickets are $10
at Handsome Cabin Boy Tattoo and Books & Company.

If you are interested getting involved with derby but don't know where to start,
TRY OFFICIATING!

It's an easy way to get near the action without all the bruises (sorry, no guarantees!)
Join Panax and Sweet T in the Non-Skating Official (NSO) Clinic.
This exciting clinic is only $5! We will provide a healthy & awesome snack.
You will learn to handle things like scorekeeping, timing penalties and recording penalties.
During one of the SK8FEST bouts, you get to run one of these positions while getting support from an experienced NSO.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the game!

"Derby Takes Blood, Sweat, and Tears..."

The Rated PG Rollergirls and Referees will be at Canadian Blood Services on Wednesday, October 30th at 1pm to give blood!

"Giving blood supports an important part of our healthcare system. We are happy to be able to donate to Canadian Blood Services throughout the year. We actually have quite a few donors among our ranks." Laura Sapergia (aka Cruely Sue) "The needle hurts a lot less than a hit from Sistah Viberosis, at least that's what we tell our gals the first time they donate".

"Roller Derby takes a lot of blood, sweat, and tears but we like to keep our blood off the track as much possible" says Kathy Klyne (aka Katt Von Doom), "We are glad to donate it to Canadian Blood Services. Our team is also never one to back down from a challenge, so we are happy to take part in PG's quest to beat Kelowna in the Drive for Life Competition."

We would like to invite all of our fans to give Canadian Blood Services a call to see if they can donate. Call today! 1-888-2DONATE
